Busan, Republic of Korea (May 1st, 2026) - The KIOTEC ODA program, or the Korea-Indonesia Integrated Ocean Fisheries Technology Training Center (KIOTEC), has once again organized a visit program to South Korea dedicated to strengthening the technical expertise of Early-Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) in Indonesia. Funded by the Korean government and officially launched on June 12, 2024, in Busan, South Korea, the program has been officially recognized as one of the “Endorsed Projects” of the UN Ocean Decade. This recognition underscores the program’s commitment to sustainable development, capacity building, and sustainable ocean management. Moreover, it serves as a concrete example of the strategic collaboration between Indonesia and Korea in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As part of its capacity-building efforts, KIOTEC engaged participants from various sectors, including policymakers and university students. A total of 10 participants, comprising KIOTEC scholarship awardee from partner universities such as UNDIP, IPB, UGM, and ITB, as well as government officials from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) and the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs (Kemenko Pangan), participated in the program.
Took place for over 7 days from April 26th to May 2nd, participants had the opportunity to visit several advanced maritime institutions and facilities in Korea, including Pukyong National University (PKNU), UN Peace Memorial Hall, KIOST Facilities in Busan and Geoje, National Maritime Museum, Sihwa Lake Tidal Power Plant, and a cultural visit to the Korean Folk Village. During this program, participants had the opportunity to witness firsthand innovations and practices in the marine and fisheries sectors, as well as learn about Korean culture.
The Korea Visit Program has provided a new perspective on the development of science and technology in the marine and fisheries sector, as stated by a representative of the Coordinating Ministry for Food Affairs:

Rhis visit program is part of KIOTEC’s ODA commitment to supporting human resource capacity building in Indonesia, as well as international cooperation between the two countries in the development of a sustainable marine and fisheries sector. This activity is expected to broaden the participants’ knowledge and enhance their competencies, while encouraging the application of the knowledge gained to support the sustainable development of the marine and fisheries sector in Indonesia.
